The role
As a farm manager, you run the day-to-day operations of a farm, plantation or livestock unit. You plan planting, harvests and animal care, supervise workers and machinery, order inputs and keep track of yields, costs and stock. You make sure produce leaves the farm on time and at the quality buyers expect.
Who is hiring
Commercial farms, plantations, poultry and livestock operations, agro-industrial groups and investors entering agriculture hire farm managers. The job is on-site and often rural, and diaspora families or investors who own land back home regularly look for a trusted manager to run it.
Background and career path
Farm managers usually hold a diploma or degree in agriculture, agronomy or animal science, and many grew up around farming. They start as supervisors or assistant managers and move on to larger farms, several sites or an operations director role.
