The role
As a medical doctor, you examine patients, make diagnoses, order tests and prescribe treatment. You follow up chronic conditions, handle emergencies, refer complex cases to specialists and keep clear medical records. You also lead clinical teams of nurses and lab staff and take part in on-call rotas.
Who is hiring
Hospitals, private clinics, occupational health services of mining and industrial companies, international NGOs and telemedicine start-ups hire doctors. Most roles are on-site, while teleconsultation and medical advisory positions can be remote.
Background and career path
You need a medical degree, a completed internship and full registration with the national medical council or order of physicians. Doctors then specialise, move into public health or take medical director roles.
