The role
As a site supervisor, you run a construction site day to day so the works match the drawings, the schedule and the budget. You organise teams and subcontractors, order materials, check the quality of each stage and keep the site diary. You are also responsible for safety on site and for reporting progress to the project manager and the client.
Who is hiring
Building and civil works contractors, real estate developers, engineering firms, mining companies and donor-funded infrastructure projects hire site supervisors. The job is entirely on site, sometimes in remote locations with rotations.
Background and career path
Most hold a diploma or degree in building or civil engineering, and some rise from foreman after years on site. You can progress to senior site manager, project manager or works director.
