The role
As a cybersecurity analyst, you protect an organisation's systems and data from attacks. You monitor alerts, investigate suspicious activity, run vulnerability scans and help fix weaknesses before they are exploited. You also write security policies and train staff to spot phishing and other threats.
Who is hiring
Banks, fintechs, mobile money providers, telecom operators, government agencies and security consulting firms hire cybersecurity analysts. Many roles sit in on-site security operations centres, while audit and consulting work is often hybrid or remote.
Background and career path
Analysts usually hold a degree in computer science, networks or information security, backed by certifications such as Security+, CEH or CISSP. They grow into senior analyst, penetration tester or security manager.
