The role
As a product manager, you decide what a digital product should do next and why. You talk to users, write specifications, prioritise the backlog and work with designers and developers to ship features. You then track usage and feedback to see whether each release solved the right problem.
Who is hiring
Fintechs, e-commerce and logistics start-ups, banks building digital channels, mobile operators and software companies hire product managers. Roles are often hybrid or remote, and diaspora businesses value people who understand African users first hand.
Background and career path
Product managers come from many backgrounds: engineering, business school, design or customer support, often with a product management course. They grow into senior product manager, head of product or product director.
