The role
As an IT support technician, you help colleagues when their computer, printer, email or network stops working. You install and configure equipment, manage user accounts, log tickets and solve problems on site or remotely. You are often the first person staff call when something goes wrong.
Who is hiring
Banks, hotels, hospitals, schools, NGOs, telecom operators and IT service companies all hire support technicians. Most roles are on-site because equipment needs hands-on care, with some remote helpdesk positions in larger organisations.
Background and career path
Most technicians hold a BTS, diploma or degree in IT or networks, sometimes with a CompTIA or Microsoft certification. They progress to system administrator, network administrator or IT manager.
