The role
As a mobile developer, you build Android and iOS apps, from the first screens to the release on the app stores. You connect apps to APIs, handle offline use and low-bandwidth connections, and fix crashes reported by users. You work with designers, backend developers and testers.
Who is hiring
Fintechs, mobile money providers, banks, delivery and e-commerce start-ups and mobile operators hire mobile developers, since many customers in Africa use services mainly on their phones. Remote and hybrid roles are frequent.
Background and career path
Mobile developers usually come from a computer science degree or a bootcamp, and show published apps in their portfolio. They progress to senior mobile developer, mobile lead or tech lead.
