The role
As a graphic designer, you create the visuals a brand uses every day: logos, flyers, social media posts, packaging and billboards. You turn a brief into concepts, refine them with feedback and prepare files for print or screen. You work with marketers, copywriters and printers.
Who is hiring
Advertising and communication agencies, printing companies, media houses, consumer brands, NGOs and start-ups hire graphic designers. Freelance and remote work is very common, and diaspora businesses often look for designers who understand African audiences.
Background and career path
Graphic designers train at a fine arts or design school, or learn through online courses, and a strong portfolio matters more than the diploma. They move up to senior designer, art director or creative director.
