The role
As a video editor, you turn raw footage into finished videos: ads, web series, short social clips, documentaries or corporate films. You select the best takes, cut to rhythm, add music, titles and subtitles, and correct colour and sound. You work closely with directors, content creators and marketing teams.
Who is hiring
TV channels, production houses, advertising agencies, media start-ups, brands and independent content creators hire video editors. A lot of the work is freelance and remote, since footage can be shared online, with on-site roles in studios and newsrooms.
Background and career path
Video editors train in film or audiovisual schools, or teach themselves, and get hired on the strength of their showreel. They progress to senior editor, post-production supervisor or director.
