The role
As a driver, you move people or goods safely from one place to another, on time and in good condition. You check your vehicle before each trip, plan the route, keep the logbook and delivery notes up to date, and report any breakdown or incident straight away. For many clients and passengers, you are the face of the company on the road.
Who is hiring
Transport and haulage companies, FMCG distributors, mining and oil services firms, NGOs, embassies, hotels and private households hire drivers across the continent. The job is entirely on the road, with early starts, long-distance trips or standby hours depending on the employer.
Background and career path
You need the licence category the vehicle requires and a clean driving record, and heavy goods or dangerous goods (ADR) qualifications open more roles. Experienced drivers move up to senior or VIP driver, transport supervisor or fleet coordinator.
