The role
As a project manager, you take a project from kick-off to delivery: you define scope, plan tasks, set budgets and lead the team that does the work. You track progress, manage risks and suppliers, and report to sponsors. When plans slip, you reset priorities and keep everyone aligned.
Who is hiring
Construction and engineering firms, energy and mining companies, telecom operators, banks, international NGOs and development programmes all hire project managers. Field projects need you on-site, while many coordination roles are hybrid or remote.
Background and career path
Project managers usually hold a degree in engineering, management or a technical field, then add a PMP or PRINCE2 certification. You move on to programme manager, portfolio manager or operations director.
